• Hey Visitor,

In light of recent events, all community members in the US should reach out to their representative in regards to the Stop Online Suicide Assistance Forums Act that has been introduced in congress. This bill, if passed, could criminalize this community and hold it liable for simply hosting information.

You should be able to locate and contact your represenative by going to this website. You can also contact Lori Trahan, the one spearheading this bill by calling her office at (202) 225-3411 or by leaving a message on the contact form on her site.

One of the best ways to combat this is to make your voice heard. We're not political activists, but we made this notice to let you know that you do have a voice and that you do have representives that represent you in congress.

Clicked on this post expecting to see people expressing their pain and thoughts on life and support in the comments. I've only been here a few months but I'm shocked.

Isn't it ok to express yourself freely with your thoughts on life and death when you're writing a post on a suicide forum? I'm totally lost as to whatever started the arguments here. The og post from FC was very much a clear expression of their thoughts and feelings on life and it wasn't aggressive at all. Not trying to debate anyone here, just wanted to say that was a little shocking and I'm sorry you're going through this.

It should be, but then OP said her opinion is fact, and when people dissented, she called them pro-lifers or no different and said anyone who disagrees with her must think endless suffering is a good thing. When people dissented to that, other people joined to defend "the objective truth that life is awful" and continue the cry-bullying.

I'm sure life has given her enough reasons for these thoughts. Life may be just pain for some people, although not for everyone. I can understand it, and I know it's possible.

What’s so bizarre (to me) RE this discourse is that it’s not as simple (as any quandary related to philosophical discussions) as one or the other, it’s very much a continuum and for many (myself included) this viewpoint is transient or seesaws, depending on how you are feeling in the moment. I may feel like life is awful or I am simply unable to enjoy the things I used to, while objectively understanding that these things could be viewed as “good” by others. But, I’m not so arrogant to believe that everyone needs to or should feel that way too. I want others to be happy and if they find little joys, I fully support that. If they feel sheer hopelessness and bitterness, that’s valid too.

The issue (for me) is projecting views onto others and expecting them all to feel the same way (and shaming/belittling them if they don’t). I have no issue with someone having a different view than me. It’s not fair of me or anyone to expect an echo chamber online, regardless of the forum. I also believe healthy and well intentioned debate is pretty critical and when some resort to ad hominem attacks on peoples character, intelligence etc simply bc their views were challenged? It’s frustrating to witness and since this forum is publicly accessible, it also arguably places the forum in a very bad light.

Yes, it’s certainly shocking. After all this is a suicide forum for people to vent openly about their feelings and this subject, and there are endless threads on here about hating life and how it’s objectively a horrific thing. You just cannot disagree that it’s such a cruel world that we live in. The truth is that there is no benefit to suffering and all I was saying is that people deserve to have access to a peaceful suicide method to end it all. I have written about this many times before as well and people agreed then. There is nothing harmful about what I’ve wrote and that’s the truth.

The truth is that this forum has gone downhill quite a bit recently, like it’s became no different to everywhere else in this world, there is a lot more pro life type things on here in general, I think in a way some of this could be linked to the media attention, but there are many nasty and toxic people on here who wish to make people who hate life feel worse. They label hating life itself and acknowledging all of the endless torture that exists as being a ‘death cult’, and one of them even quoted parts of my venting posts onto a thread written by a pro lifer with a malicious intent. It’s sad how people act this way, some of these people clearly have a hatred for this forum and what it stands for, so it doesn’t make sense why they are on here. Maybe they just want attention or it makes them feel better about themselves being all arrogant and looking down on others. People often make posts about how this forum is a supportive community but people should be aware that it always isn’t the case, just because discussion of suicide methods are allowed doesn’t mean that this place is free from pro suffering beliefs and hostility.

But it’s actually unbelievable when people get offended when someone says that death solves everything and life is horrific. I could never see being tortured as being a positive thing, it’s totally unacceptable to me. It’s unfortunate that suicidal people are treated so badly in this world, it’s not ‘amusing’ in any way that someone suffers. Some people just want to die and they are literally not harming others in any way. Nobody’s stopping anyone else from enjoying life, if they see it as being good for them then they should just go and enjoy it.

If someone felt like this I can't imagine the pain and grief it would take to arrive at this view point. If anyone feels like this or anything in between the least we can do is allow them permission to their thoughts in a space that's meant to be a small relief for those who are suffering.

I'm sympathetic until someone tells me what i should accept as The truth, and tells me I must believe endless suffering is good if I disagree, and tells me I'm no different from a pro-lifer on a suicide forum just for disagreeing. You want to know why this place is an echo chamber? Because this is the treatment you get for disagreeing.
