I mean this is absolutely true. If you read about this forum in the media you imagine a very toxique pro-death community full of hatred and anger. I have searched for a good place to share my feelings online for a long time. The people in pro-life forums at least in my opinon are not as philosophical and often more superficial. Due to the censorship about some topics the discussion don't go into such a depth. Stigmatized topics of all kinds are not as present as here.
When I talked about my most inner feelings I have got dumb comments that these thoughts are too intimiate and they feel kind of embarrassed. WTF. I don't go to an online forum to play the charade which I have to do in real life. I want to be me.

The mods on here are way friendlier than in other (pro-life) forums at least with my experience. In the media they are portrayed as monsters. I think many people who have read in the NYT and wanted to give this forum a chance are suprised in a positive manner. At least this is what I have read from some of them. Or the forums I looked up were not even moderated at all. On social media you get so hurtful and mean comments when you talk openly about suicide. People who don't know anything about the topic or religious people tell you you will go to hell or other mean stuff. Fuck them!

I'm more reserved in saying how friendly this forum is. I joined this site for political reasons: to escape the Biden-19 lockdowns my state was imposing in 2020. They had no proper end date, and I didn't want to live under social isolation forever, so I realized that death was my fate. (Technically, I could just move away to a Republican state, but suicide seemed like less hassle.) But some people here were in favor of lockdowns due to their political beliefs, or didn't think my reason to CTB was good enough, and they made it clear to me. I even had to report a post or two.

I'm sorry that's happened to you. Even if we have different political beliefs, different religion, different views on life, and different priorities, no one should ever be able to say one reason for wanting to die is less valid than another. What seems like a major life-altering event to me may just seem like a minor inconvenience to you, but that doesn't invalidate my pain.

Mental health is still taboo in most countries. No one wants to talk about it and no one really gives a shit, including psychiatrists, social workers, etc. The only people who really understand are the people who are suffering the same. The idiots who write these dumb ass articles are clueless. They think writing an article about this site will make them famous. I have no one to talk to, no one who cares outside of this site. And by caring I don't mean they're going to "save" me or anything like that, but the people (most) on this site are understanding and non-judgmental. That is what people who are hurting need. Someone to listen to them, no matter what they say, and not judge them. LONG LIVE SS!!!!!!!

The problem is the way the articles paint this place out to be. Most of the articles are written from the perspective of a grieving parent who thinks that their child would be alive if it hadn't been for this site. When I came across a couple of articles that actually named this place, I thought I was coming into a place run by 12-18 year old who were going to bully me into ending my life. That has not been the case at all. This place is friendlier than other sites I have been a part of. I lurked for around two weeks before actually posting a thread because I thought this would be similar to Benzobuddies, which in my opinion, is an incredibly toxic place. When I ask a question on here, people actually respond and I notice that any "fights" that take place on here, everyone is mature enough to own up to their faults or realize that when typing on a computer, it is often hard to read tone.

I haven't read any other articles, but the NYT propaganda piece was clearly not written from the perspective of a grieving parent, but from that of a journalist, which is arguably worse. The only goal of the article was to create a dramatic narrative in order to sell a story; these journalists couldn't care less about the people on this website.

Most of the time friendly yes, but not always. There are some awful people out there because uhm, internet I guess.

Anyways yeah, these people think that this site is nothing more than a death cult that encourages everyone to end their lives when in reality it's just like any other forum, but better, because you can be yourself and speak your mind without having platitudes thrown at. There is information available out there, but you do whatever you want with it because your life is YOURS.

If it was indeed a death cult we would all have been dead by now lol. These people would rather get cancer than think for 1 second.

I do not care about anti choice articles, I will never read them and I do not ever need to know what they say. People do seem to focus a lot of attention on them. From what I know though, a lot of anti choice people are delusional. Suicide is still very stigmatised, so having somewhere to be able to talk openly about it is important.

I was surprised by how nice most people on here were when I first joined. There were some threads where things got heated here and there and we all have our disagreements about certain things, but that's to be expected everywhere you go anyway. I'm just glad it doesn't usually get as bad here as it does in most places, but I think it helps that all of us are going through shit while we're here so we understand each other in ways most people don't.

As for me, if we encounter each other in a thread discussing religion or anti-natalism, then watch out! I might pull a Jekyll and Hyde on ya (I'm joking)! :pfff:

I do not care about anti choice articles, I will never read them and I do not ever need to know what they say. People do seem to focus a lot of attention on them. I read that article from NYT. 0/5 stars from me. Unless you feel like throwing up for some reason, I don't recommend reading it.

Hahahahaha the pandemic was going on for over a year before Biden became president.
There were MORE LOCKDOWNS UNDER TRUMP THAN THERE WERE UNDER BIDEN.
That's not disputable, that's just the facts. Deal with it.
Trump should still get guillotined for other reasons unrelated to the virus.
Biden, the dog, was NOT EVEN A THOUGHT IN THE PEOPLE'S MINDS when the virus hit. No one cares about him and he's not relevant.
People were looking for ways to avoid pneumonia, avoid death of their elderly loved ones, get healthcare safely, not have overflowing emergency rooms triaging people to death. No one thought "oh this makes me think about Joe Biden, who is not president and who no one likes."
Biden got some attention for pretending for about five minutes that he'd do more about the pandemic than Trump did. But he didn't. By far more lockdown measures happened during Trump presidency.

We're back to it being just like any other forum which it is
Hi Mr2005. I see no reason to be civil to people who attack me and brag about their fuck-you-I-got-mine attitudes because other human lives are so disposable to them.
The paradox of tolerance might be a good thing for you to read about here.

I think the old me would’ve been scared of this place. Old me would’ve thought ss was like the dark web or something. That everyone on here was mean and wanted to steal your information and sell your organs. But this place is actually very nice. I have been able to get my most deepest and darkest thoughts off my chest here with no judgement whatsoever which is great.

For the most part, I agree. The bad-apples that come to this forum to cause a ruckus and bewitch this forum with their bad energies get sussed out and disposed of pretty quickly, not via moderation intervention (which would be censorship, and I strongly disagree with censorship on this forum more so than any other forum out there) but because the other members here swiftly deflect any incoming bad energy so that the the toxic participator leaves by their own volition because they can't spread their bad vibes when they're being cornered by the entire forum—which is mostly made up of good, but abused souls.

If could see what kind of parties Democrat elites like George Soros, Anthony Fauci, Nancy Pelosi, and Kamala Harris were having with each other in 2020, your eyes would pop out! Those parties make my right-wing parties look like boring lectures in comparison.

Anyway, this site is mostly friendly, and I'm happy I joined it. Learning about ____ was an eye-opener. And it's available on a river in Brazil in the US.

If we're being honest, I see much more dehumanizing and toxic posts by you than by the other user. Especially because yours are aimed at other users who you have an obvious political disagreement with, while his are mostly venting about politicians and others in power, in a way that is very similar to yours.

Hi @Fragile. It doesn't need to be aimed at me directly to be advocating genocide of the disabled.
He brags about doing things that give deadly diseases to countless of our loved ones.
Anger is not toxic. Unlearn that shit. :)
Political talks belong to the Offtopic. Don't ruin OP's thread, guys. Let's be civil :)
No :D
No virtue in being polite and not fighting back when gaslit and abused. Whatsoever. ^_^

I'm 100% sure that someone who spreads those ideas would have been banned a long time ago, are you sure that you are not having an extreme misunderstanding here?

I know politics can be interpreted in many ways, especially the ones about freedom in this climate, but we shouldn't misrepresent people like that regardless of how much we disagree with them.

If it leads you to such horrible conclusions about someone, then I'd say that anger is definitely toxic.

Sometimes there's quite a bit of misogyny here. The kind that goes beyond the normal "frustrated lonely dude vents" posts (which are fine) and gets super toxic.

But for the most part people are cool.

I haven't joined many forums in my life, but from the few ones I've been a part of, noticed that the best ones are those who are open for discussions and have a strong theme tying everything, that brings people together despite their differences. I feel this forum is that, it's a place for open discussion about a very controversial and complicated subject, but one that lends itself for pretty much everything and relates to other issues that the average person has probably experiences more than once in their life.

I have a small theory that the reasons forums like these work and have a very nice community is due to them catering to a very "niche" audience, an audience that is familiarized with the subject matter on a personal level, but typically can't talk about with others due to various reasons (stigma, shame, lack of understanding, disinterest, etc.); in turn, these forums cater to specific needs and they're more willing to listen and understand the person on the other side because of their own struggles. Not sure if it makes complete sense or there's any truth to it, but I based it on what I've seen. Perhaps it could also be attributed to the fact that, when you try to suppress people form talking about something, they'll want to talk more about it?

In any case, I find it fascinating and I'm glad this place exists. I'm tired that every other site on the internet rehashes the same message to the point it just causes me complete apathy nowadays. I'm tired of pretending, I want to talk about all my struggles sincerely without always having a "happy ending", forcing me to keep everything to myself and feel worse that I already do on a day-to-day basis.

I think the real reason it's because we can speak with heart, not with a bunch of rules, status, hypocrisy, dogma and etc. And another fact it's because we can share our weaknesses, since in a RL, with real people, we must follow certain "rules" to be accepted by the system, otherwise, you'll be excluded and treated like a garbage. People don't want to hear your problems, they want to hear only things that'll please them.

The world outside of here is filled with insensitive, and judgemental and vindictive people which is why I can really appreciate a community like this.

I’ve never felt at ease anywhere else and I come here whenever I’m stressed out even if I don’t post anything. I don’t know why…

@Fragile - Behaviors like his have given deadly diseases to countless vulnerable people - the diabetic, the elderly, retail workers and others - and lead to them drowning to death inside their own lungs. This is not a misunderstanding.

The most likely is that people are friendlier here than in other forums because when you are having a hard time you will become kind. Bad people are far too well off.
