Yes. I don't need to feel any worse than I already do.

I take a lot of pride in appearance and I get a lot of self-esteem from it. I'm relatively vain when it comes to my looks, and whether I am sporting a handle bar mustache, mohawk, or a beard, I am always well groomed and smell nice.

I shower almost every day, because I go to the gym as often as possible and like feeling clean. I wash my hair every 2-3 days.

I used to lurk on a web board for the, um, appearance challenged. I enjoyed reading about people's experiences, observations... One common theme I came upon there--and one I agree with--is that investing in appearance is just not worth it for very many people who're waaaaay at the bottom of the appearance totem pole. The effort required only to look at a grossly sub-par product and have this judgment confirmed by everyone else can be just too much. The disappointment itself can be a source of depression.

I do what I must to be minimally acceptable. I used to have a corporate job, used to invest in tailored suits and shirts, shaving and showering twice a day... It made no difference in others' acceptance of me, burned through my savings account, and made me depressed b/c I wasn't getting any of the returns I'd been told making those investments would net me. Law of diminishing returns.

Yes. I feel better and also I think the more I can hide the warning signs from people, the better.

I agree. It's specially not worth it when you don't have much energy left.

I live with my friend and her dad now, when i lived at home i wore the same clothes most days because i did not have many clothes. My Dad left home,my Mum is an alcoholic,my sister is a drug addict.I was scared to use the shower or bathroom because of my brother.
My friends dad buys me clothes. Now i can change my clothes everyday, and i can the bathroom or shower.
I am really clean now,i look like a new person. If i still lived at home i would not be clean like i am now.

No, I've thrown away my tooth brush and starting to eat more sugary things. I hope to destroy my teeth. If I'll still shower though as there's no reason not to but I want to destroy my teeth because I always had shitty teeth that got yellow and was made fun of even though I took care of them.

No point in taking care of teeth if I can never have the perfect ones in my opinion.

I am sorry but that is terrible logic. Your teeth won't just fall out but you are more importantly endangering your health.

And I get it we are on a forum where people want to die anyways but these diseases won't kill you. You will only be in a lot of pain and discomfort.

And if you are looking to die then you might aswell do it in a quicker and better way.

Yeah, but only because I hate feeling unclean. If it weren't for that, then I doubt I'd bother. As it is, I shower twice a week and that's about it. I also only shave once a month and brush my teeth every few weeks, or whenever it is I feel like it. Fortunately enough for me, my teeth are extremely resilient and I've never once had a problem with them in my entire life, so, in my case, I've been able to get away with treating them fairly poorly without any real blow back to speak of. Not that I want to "jinx" it, I guess (knock on wood, you know). It also bears mentioning I think, that I don't, nor have I really ever, eaten/drank anything sugary or corrosive, so that probably plays a large role in it as well, I'd imagine. Anyway, I'm actually a rather tidy person, but as far as hygiene is concerned it's basically just a combination of boredom, filthiness & discomfort that compels me to take care of it. If I could I'd much rather just rot catatonic in the corner. Everything else be damned.
