I would do anything to go back to what I thought was the worst situation I could be in. My current situation is so much worse than it ever was. Do you think your current situation could get any worse or do you think you've hit your lowest low? I now truly think that things could always be worse. It makes me a bit happier about my current life although it is also scary to think things could get even worse.

Well, there is a classical to read out there if you want to reflect that question from the optimistic side: Voltaire: Candide: or the optimist. According to that - a bit sarcastic - book, we are living in the pest possible world. So all the suffering we are facing, it is still the best possible world for us, it can´t get any better. But of course it is a sarcastic book.

But in my opinion (and experience): it can always get worse, unfortunately.

I relate to this a lot. The last few years in particular have been a struggle, but this year has been the worst so far. Even when I look back years and years ago at my worst, it still wasn’t as bad as it is now. Every night I wish I could go back in time.

It’s dreadful thinking and knowing this isn’t even the worst to come.

Things can always get worse… I’ll know I’ve hit my lowest low when I finally completely disregard any fear or hesitation and do what I know my heart craves - the first ticket out of this existence

learning there is no rock bottom and that things can always get worse was a profound realization for me. Whereas there seems to be a ceiling to happiness. I thought I was at my worst in 2015 and things have progressively got worse since then. It doesn't even feel real anymore, feels like a sick joke.

Things will certainly get worse for me in the future and it’s one of the reasons why I want to be gone so badly. There is no limit as to how much we can suffer in this life and that is a fact. If we think that things are bad right now, they can always get much, much worse. The fact that there is unlimited potential for suffering in this life is one of the reasons as to why I prefer non existence to any kind of life, as only the living can suffer and not the dead.

To die would remove the cause of all problems in the first place. Peaceful eternal sleep where this life is completely forgotten about really is ideal. I do think that in general as humans get older the amount of suffering and problems will increase. All that humans have to look forward to is deteriorating from old age where they will be burdened by health problems. The thought of very old age horrifies me. Existence to me is extremely depressing and I believe that life should have never been a thing in the first place.

My experience in life is that things only get worse. We're all aging, which will eventually lead to more ailments and disease. I see no upside in that. The world's a freaking mess, and see not how it will ever get better. This seems to be the natural trajectory of life. Things get worse as time rolls on.

Life will get worse in the future for me, so I'm going to do my best to die before more shit hits the fan.

Once things get so bad that a soul can no longer cope, it is time to ctb.
After you have tried every possible method to resolve the things that cause problems, I say ctb, screw it. Why should I stay in pain when there are other places to go? Perhaps I have paid enough karma to get a better deal next time around?!

Yes. Things could always be worse. My whole life could have been worse. Many times I have been told that I should be grateful for how good my life has been. And I know that this is true. But the life I have lived has shaped me into the crappy person that I am as well, so that is why I despise life.

My life has been worse off than it is right now too. I was in jail at one point for a few days. It was cold. I had no appetite. And all I wanted to do was sleep, sometimes read. And just today I realized that for the past week or so even though I am free to do what I please, this is still the way I live my life. My lack of social skills always makes me create enemies, so I do nothing but lay in bed and sleep. I barely eat.

Even though life could be a lot worse, it can also be a lot better. There are just some seeds in this world that unfortunately never become a flower like the rest. Just don't have what it takes I guess.

'There are just some seeds in this world that unfortunately never become a flower like the rest.'

So beautifully put. Your post really resonates with me. Sometimes I don't really know why I'm living the life I am. I barely leave the house.

I hate it when people say 'you have a lot to be grateful for'. Funnily enough, the most positive people I have come across in life actually are genuinely grateful- but it does seem to be just that- a genuine warmth- not an imposed one. Forcing it I think just creates more resentment- 'Why should I be grateful?' 'Who should I be grateful to?' Seeing as I would say a large proportion of us here hate and resent life- why would we be grateful to have received decades of it? No matter what 'stuff' it brings with it.

Also agree with the rest of the posts here that life has the potential to be a whole lot worse and worst still, personally speaking, the probability seems high that things will only become worse.

It definitely will get worse as I age and gain health problems, with the addition of losing family members. It is one of the reasons why I want to go. Dealing with how things turned out is already too painful for me now, I can't imagine doing this for 50-60 more years.

Yes. It can always be worse. There is no cap on suffering and no cosmic force that averages it all out (not counting death). I thought I had it bad then I experienced something that really showed me just how bad things can be. I wish I hadn't been alive to receive that lesson.

Things can almost always worsen in this hell realm. There is a myriad of ways in which your body or your mind can torment you, and many of them don't require sophisticated torture methods. In truth, we're always on the verge of catastrophe and while we succesfully overcome obstacles that leave others crippled or dead we only get closer to an obstacle nobody can surpass, all the while becoming increasingly liable to fail with the rest as our body and mind deteriorates.

Life defines what tragedy is. Comedy is an useful coping strategy we came up to deal with existing.

This depressing snippet was brought to you by Arthur Schopenhauer as understood by whatevs.
