Finally, at last, I have successfully obtained my method!

20181217_142526 sartana 88m.jpg
I filled out the paperwork and passed the background check (took less than 2 minutes), the transaction went as smooth as I could ever ask, the clerk said I got a good deal (and he is right about that) and I finally can breathe easy! I don't think I will ctb yet but I can at least relax knowing that there is a way out, if things ever gotten to it, an tool for home defense if I ever encounter such a situation, and of course, a new tool for recreation if I ever decide to take up target shooting.

So thank you for everyone that has helped me with this and special thanks to Threads for his megathread and suggestions, TiredHorse for all his suggestions as well, and ReadyasEver along with anyone with firearms knowledge. I'm still going to be around here with everyone since I like the interaction with other fellow members on this site and forum and this is also a safe haven for me to vent, cope, and what not. Plus, there are lots of great philosophical and intellectual discussions about suicide, death, and right of choice. This site is better than seeing a mental health professional, therapist, psychiatrist, and what not, at least for me it does. Anyways, stay tuned for another thread about the future.

I'm on standby when it comes to ctb atm. Right now, I'm very relieved that I have a way out of this mad world if I so choose to and having this real 'choice' to opt out anytime is very reassuring and motivating for me to continue living in the interim.

I'm glad you were successful in obtaining it, it really must give you peace of mind that you have your exit secured when or IF you decide it's time. Is it weird to say I'm also jealous? In my country it's insanely difficult to obtain that kind of gun (or any firearm) for the average person. With my medical history of chronic depression downright impossible. Which sucks, because it would be my first choice for CTB. I would be willing to practice shooting and handling a gun until I'm sure I'll get it right.

I suppose to be fair, I could be a bit jealous at the people who live in countries where assisted suicide and euthanasia are legal, but I'm not since I know I just have a different option to ctb (if not N, inert gases, or heights, then firearm it is).

Anyways, which country are you in? I'm sure there are other options that may be easier for you to obtain other than a gun.

I didn't mean to offend. I'm in Hungary, euthanasia is not (and will likely never be) legal. Even passive euthanasia/refusal of treatment in a hospital was nigh impossible until four years ago. My mother suffered for it tremendously :( For now I'm going with nitrogen or helium if I can find a supplier that doesn't dilute their product. I'm trying to learn as much as I can about the method, but I have a bit of a hard time with the physics and requirements. I'm not he brightest bulb when it comes to that :) but it's the method I like most for now.

No worries, you didn't offend me at all. Anyways, if you are able to go to Netherlands or any country where assisted suicide, euthanasia is legal, maybe you could have a chance at it. However, you do have to have a real illness (physical and mental) that severely negatively impacts your quality of life in order to have a chance at getting it, also you will be heavily screened and evaluated by psychiatrists and psychologists there before the doctor will prescribe the lethal drug.

As far as nitrogen or helium, @TiredHorse knows more about this and also there is a megathread that talks about it. I'm not an expert on that method so I can't say much on the specifics..

I might be wrong, but isn't Switzerland the only country that allows foreigners to apply? Not that I would pass the screening. Depression even accompanied by fibromyalgia likely wouldn't qualify.

Yes, I follow that thread, I've gone through it a few times :) Just trying to figure out everything before a decision to buy, and make sure I know what I'm doing. Thank you for your kind reply.

Use buck shot and not bird shot. One of the suicides I had to cover while on duty stupidly used bird shot and twitched. Was a very painful and messy end for him. More so because he used the wrong ammo. Be careful and good luck if you decide to use it.

I can imagine it would give you great peace of mind. Apparently old/terminally ill people who have managed to obtain N often don't actually take it, but the peace of mind it gives them knowing they have an 'out' makes their lives so much more tolerable

I'm from the US, and luckily I live in a state where gun laws (especially long guns) are generally lax. Pistols are harder to get due to the pistol purchase permit (which requires going to a sheriff of the county I reside in and obtaining it through them). Therefore, I decided on getting a long gun (12 ga shotgun), plus the reliability and lethality over most pistols and rifles.

It's all the same where I live. Firearm Purchase Permit. Long or handguns.

No problem, anyways, I hope they approve your permit and that you are able to obtain your pistol.

Side note: Oh and just realized that when my gun arrived early last Saturday (12/15/18) was actually good timing because guests are coming over before the weekend (12/21/18) and it would have been suspicious and awkward, if not nearly impossible to move the box without drawing suspicion. Therefore, everything worked out well. I've also just ditched the box in which my long gun came in when everyone was out of the house for a while.

I have a misdemeanor on my record for assault, although it will be dismissed in May. Would that compromise my request for a gun to your knowledge? I live in Massachusetts.

Man I wish I had a method right now. I’ve been on the hunt for a long time. I’m so proud and happy for you though ❤️ I hope the absolute best for you on whatever journey you decided to take.

Just fyi IANAL (I am not a lawyer) so take this with a grain of salt. As per federal law, no it shouldn't prohibit you from owning or passing a background unless the misdemeanor would likely result in 1+ year of imprisonment or if it is a domestic violence charge, but based on what you described no it shouldn't affect you. Massachusetts law may vary, which then would be a state issue rather than a federal issue. Keep in mind that Massachusetts has a red flag law, meaning that if anyone deems you to be a danger/threat to yourself or others, then they could have a court ordered firearms confiscation, when then you would need to petition the courts and government to get them back, but I don't think that applies to you though since you are still trying to obtain a firearm.

@faust Not live firing, but dry firing, yes.

@Hotsackage Yeah it would be terrible if I failed, but I'm very, very confident that that won't be the case as I've studied and practiced extensively and have enough confidence that it will succeed (I'm even making it hard for others to get to me, thus buying more time, should such a minute situation ever arrived that I didn't immediately die from the wound, blood loss would finish me off).

@HorribleFeelings1 Yes at that time. However, right now, I don't have direct access to it, it's in storage somewhere else, which I will retrieve when I am ready.

No domestic violence involved; in throes of a delerium (high fever; severe urinary tract infection). I purportedly assaulted ambulance personnel...don’t know if this will be an impediment, but it is a factor in my desire for ctb. My neighbors know, and are harassing me because of it. Ctb seems like only way out; at age 64, i’ve Had it with this life...I am released from my misdemeanor probation on May 15...ctb beckons

I'm sorry to hear about your situation and I assume you would be able to report your neighbors for harassment if they are constantly doing it bother you (after you told them to stop). Also, I wish you peace when your time comes.

Congrats on getting this, and I hope you never have to use it.

Are you going to bench mount it? That's about all I can think of to prevent flinching or recoil. You can also use a bench mount to make cool photos of what it looks like when you shoot various targets. I remember a Japanese trivia show using a bench mount to fire a Colt revolver against the edge of a katana. The sword split the bullet in half!

@faraway_beach Just in case you didn't see the most recent post, here:

@HorribleFeelings1 Yes at that time. However, right now, I don't have direct access to it, it's in storage somewhere else, which I will retrieve when I am ready.

Sadly, I don't have direct and immediate access to my method. Am waiting for the right time (which is much later this year, either in summer/fall).
