• Hey Visitor,

In light of recent events, all community members in the US should reach out to their representative in regards to the Stop Online Suicide Assistance Forums Act that has been introduced in congress. This bill, if passed, could criminalize this community and hold it liable for simply hosting information.

You should be able to locate and contact your represenative by going to this website. You can also contact Lori Trahan, the one spearheading this bill by calling her office at (202) 225-3411 or by leaving a message on the contact form on her site.

One of the best ways to combat this is to make your voice heard. We're not political activists, but we made this notice to let you know that you do have a voice and that you do have representives that represent you in congress.

What other pro-choice communities have you been a part of (either as a member or a lurker)?

Just wondering for how many people here, SS is their first time in a community like this. I lurked on LostAllHope for a few days when I was in middle school (yes, in hindsight, I agree I as a minor probably shouldn't have been on there). What about you guys?

Funny story, I remember finding LostAllHope in search of peaceful CTB methods a long time ago. None of them listed there seemed good enough, so I looked around for more pro choice websites. Turns out, LostAllHope was the only pro choice website you can easily-ish find by searching, so I spent the next 3 hours scrolling through pages of completely pro-life search results before giving up and going to sleep.

Damn search engines :pfff:🔫

Yup, sounds about right. It must have been relatively easy to find because I don't imagine middle-school me would have had the drive or perseverance or know-how to go beyond the first several pages of Google results. I'm pleased that the resources available here on SS are much better than those available back then,

It was before I joined SS. Tried to become a member of Exit, but they have a no-under-50's policy and you need to send photo ID to prove you are over 50. I know they make exceptions, so I asked what sort of things, if any, qualify for an under 50's membership. I explained that I am fond of their philosophy and works, that I am suffering greatly from chronic illness, I do not expect to be alive for much longer and becoming a member would bring me much peace of mind. The first email I received was a standard automatic one that was quite unhelpful, so I sent another email.

A representative responded, and bluntly said "We will not answer any questions. Send photo ID if you wish to join". I replied saying that I didn't want to send my photo ID until I could at least ask about possible exceptions to the 50+ rule, and purchasing the PPH. I explained my health conditions to them and mentioned that I am in some distress over not having access to information about peaceful options to end my life if the need arises, I asked again if I might qualify. I signed the emails with "warmest regards, *my real name*." (not going to share what my real name is here but to use an example I will say Lee)

I received a reply about one week later that just said " ...It's your choice, "Lee". "

They did not respond to any other emails I have sent since then.

Well, yikes. I'm glad SS has (hopefully) been able to fill that gap for you.

This is the only pro-choice forum I've been on. I was honestly surprised to know that places like this existed on the clearweb!

I looked for such a place for years and years. Finally stumbled here a couple weeks ago. I'm not a member of any other places.

I was a member of the SS subreddit before it got banned, and that's how I ended up on here.

I also took a philosophy class in university about contemporary issues in modern society where I spoke up about the right to die. I was never a big participant in class because I was too self-conscious and felt too ill, but I just couldn't stay quiet about it. I couldn't complete the course because I was hanging on by a thread even back then, but it was a really interesting course and I would love to have been able to finish it if everything wasn't so fucked up with me.

I was a member of a pro death penalty site. That was when I saw death as a bad thing and the ultimate punishment. Since I've grown more pessimistic about life, my thoughts are sometimes living is worse than dying.

Reddit has a few pro-choice / pro-death subreddits still like r/suicidal_thoughts, /antinatalism and r/promortalism. Too pro-death for my liking in the most part though

This place has a vibe I can’t really describe. Have never found another place quite like it despite dabbling a bit in other communities.
