do you belilve in fate someone dying in a war or car accident or fire is this destiny ones fate
so getting cancer and dying a young age is fate

You can't control blind luck or destiny . So why even try, right?
If fate is out to get you, there's nothing you can do about it.

We can make some of our lives but certainly not all of it like some people seem to think.
Any situation can be altered to some degree but some bad things we're just stuck with,
beyond our own personal power until an outside sourse eventually helps us out.
If life were truly what we make it, we'd all be leading incredibly wonderful lives.

you can't choose how you look so no life is not what you make of it
life more like what the universe makes of it for you

I think it depends - in the u.s. maybe 10% of people get such bad luck that it is impossible or almost impossible to overcome it. For a high percentage of people with better luck there is a lot of truth to the phrase, though luck is always a big factor.

I only believe in cause and affect of all.things. All deeds have outcomes, consequences connected.to causes. Otherwise, it conjures up this image of omnipresent God whom punishes or rewards the faithful and the sinners.

I think that life is simply happening, and there are some things within your control. There are a lot of situations far beyond your control, too. While I don't believe in fate, and I certainly don't believe in a malevolent force dictating anything at all, I do believe that an awful lot of unsavory things happen at a near constant rate and can't be slowed down. Which, tbh, is one of the primary reasons I made the decision to ctb. I almost think I could handle a controlling background force more than I can handle the idea of spontaneous, chaotic pain. I think chemical reactions had a really wild day and now humans are here and we're capable of terrible things. Nature never claimed to be kind or gentle.

I can't get myself to buy into the idea of a creator or larger force. I don't believe in destiny or anything predetermined. That means there is always chance for less safety, less security, less peace. Which feels like such a betrayal. If I ever think whether or not I'm doing to right things, I think on things like that and I feel centered in my decisions.

I don't know. There certainly are some unchangeable factors that can alter the course of your life. For example, there is a big difference whether or not you grew up in a first world country or a third world country. Growing up in a third world country automatically denies you some privileges of the first world country. There is also a significant difference between growing up in a shithole town in the middle of nowhere and growing up in a huge city. Here the difference lies in opportunities and the way of spending your free time. And of course, the family dynamic has a significant outcome on one's mental health and coping mechanisms in the future.
I wouldn't say all is predetermined though. For example, in today's world landing a job is often about connections, so you may get some jobs through relations even if you objectively don't have related skills. As for love life, sometimes it's simply about being in the right place at the right time, you can be on Tinder for years and find no one, or you can go out to a local festival and meet the right person by accident. Another thing is that often times you hear about someone who grew up with an abusive alcoholic parent choosing an abusive alcoholic spouse and therefore repeating childhood dynamics. Yet others who grew up with someone like that might use their experience to recognize and avoid this type of person.
I really don't want to believe that this outcome was predetermined, altough some factors in my life do make it seem that way.
Then again, some might be happy and succesful later on and yet never get over their childhood trauma.
This world certainly is cruel so I wouldn't be suprised if determined fate really was the case.

I don’t believe in fate, I just think that random factors that are out of our control determine everything in life. If someone ends up dying in an accident I don’t believe that has been their fate their whole life, instead they came to that point due to chance. Some people are just simply more unlucky than others and this is not predetermined. In this life many people are disadvantaged through no fault of their own and that is why in life some people suffer a lot more than others.

It doesn't reflect reality very well. The choices we make/the actions we take are only one factor in a vast ocean of factors leading to any outcome in life. We aren't in ultimate control of the future.

How can life be just what you make it? Some people are born into families, and just by being born into that particular family, they inherit huge sums of assets, great looks, intelligence, and mental health. tell a homeless guy that life is what you make it.
You might lose a few teeth!

life depends on random chance, fate is not predetermined, being born into privilege sure does help your life chances

Life is full of many factors (some random some no) that are not under our control. You do not choose your parents, yet they are responsible for your education and they set the example for your life. Imagine, you will spend the 18 most important years of your life with the same people, it is longer than most marriages and you have no say in it.

then you are pushed down a certain career, you cannot chose your colleagues often or your boss, yes you can resign but it is hard to find new jobs after a while

then there is your character and personality and some aspect you do not control there as well. i have some many personality disorder and I do not know which ones are my faults, which one are my parents fault and which what are genetic

We do not control are fuck, most of us anyway
