Marilyn Monroe died of an overdose of barbiturates in 1962 when it was common for doctors to prescribe Nembutal. She was found dead in her home 12305 5th Helena Drive in Los Angeles with her housekeeper Eunice Murray and her doctors Hyman Engelberg and Ralph Greenson. Marilyn was lying on her bed in an unnatural position as if her body had been moved. Marilyn used to take the sleeping medicines Nembutal, Librium and Chloral Hydrate in tablets, injections and enemas. The doctor Thomas Noguchi who performed the autopsy of Marilyn Monroe said that the cause of death propably was suicide. Pentobarbital and Chloral Hydrate was found in the blood, drugs enough to kill 20 people. But the autopsy was inadequate - some organs were not examined and disappeared.

Eunice Murray, Hyman Engelberg and Ralph Greenson changed their stories about what happened the evening repeatedly. To the question: "Was Robert Kennedy at 12305 5th Helena Drive on August 4, 1962?" Eunice Murray answered: No 1973, 1975 and Yes 1986. To the question: "Was the door to Marilyn´s bedroom locked?" Eunice Murray answered: Yes 1962, 1963, 1973, 1975 and No 1982 and 1986. To the question: "When did you look in Marilyn´s bedroom window?" Eunice Murray answered: 3.30 AM 1962, 2.00 AM 1963 and Midnight 1973. To the question: "What made you check on Marilyn?" Eunice Murray answered: Light 1962, 1963 and Phone cord 1973. Hyman Engelberg and Ralph Greenson changed their stories about what time they came to 12305 5th Helena Drive several times.

The policeman Jack Clemmons who first came to the place considered that Marilyn had been murdered, but the police never managed to solve the case. The goddess is buried in Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles. There are several theories about the death of Marilyn Monroe. Was it suicide, a medical mistake or murder?

1. Suicide. Marilyn had tried to commit suicide several times before, but then she had been disovered and taken to hospital. She was manodrepressive and was addicted to sleeping medication. Marilyn Monroe overdosed medication consciously to die.

2. Medical mistake. Marilyn Monroe was sleep deprived the day she died and needed more sleep medicine. Marilyn´s doctors Hyman Engelberg and Ralph Greenson provided enema or injection to the housekeeper Eunice Murray with instructions how to use it. Eunice Murray had no medical education and maybe she overdosed by mistake. When the policeman Jack Clemmons came to 12305 5th Helena Drive and found Marilyn Monroe dead, Eunice Murray was doing the laundry in the middle of the night - and why would a housekeeper be doing the laundry at such an hour unless the bedclothing had become soiled as a result of the administration of drugs. Eunice Murray and Ralph Greenson was at 12305 5th Helena Drive with a dead Marilyn Monroe. The body was turned on its back to revive her, but no attempts were made because it was too late. A window had to be broken so that it would appear as if forced entry had been necessary. Soiled linen had to be cleanded. Ralph Greenson and Eunice Murray had to fabricate an account and they had to rehearse it. That is why they changed their stories several times for the police.

3. Murder. Marilyn had threatened to hold a press conference and reveal her affairs with the Kennedy brothers. Robert Kennedy then threatened her that there were ways to keep her quiet. Later the same day, Robert Kennedy and two other men came to 12305 5th Helena Drive and gave Marilyn an injection of Nembutal. An ambulance came to the house, but then Ralph Greenson arrived and gave Marilyn an injection of Nembutal in her heart. She was murdered by her doctor Ralph Greenson. (But according to Donald Spoto in the biography of Marilyn Monroe, Robert Kennedy never shared a bed with Marilyn Monroe. She only met Robert Kennedy and John F Kennedy four times. There was no passionate love affair between the president and Marilyn Monroe.)

Suicide, medical mistake or murder? We will never know. But Marilyn Monroe is the legend that never dies.

She was an actor or something, right? Why does this matter? Great method though, an amazing time to be alive when doctors straight up prescribe N without any fuzz.

That case is certainly interesting. If she did ctb at least she did it peacefully. That is my preferred method.

I don't believe that any famous and rich person with good prospects would commit suicide. They love life and never think of ctb.

I have read many books about Marilyn Monroe and I believe that the cause of her death was a medical mistake, number 2.

Good thing she was talentless so the world lost nothing
This comment is highly inappropriate, especially on a website such as this.
By saying so, you imply that the lives of untalented people (without having any objective metric to judge talent)
are worthless, as opposed to those of talented people, which is frankly disgusting.
If anything, we are all equally worthless, but that provides no excuse to be insensitive to other people's
problems (and she was obviously troubled).

Didn't mean to imply anything of the sort. Too late to unsay what I said. I've always found the glorification of M.M. annoying. Guess I'm cancelled now. Good thing my life's over anyway

I agree about her glorification.
What do you mean when you say you are "cancelled"?
I didn't book you in the first place.

I'm sure you're aware of "cancel culture". I'm sorry I insulted the ghost of M.M. When you're irritated by someone's famously vapid & mindless public persona, you can forget that they were an actual human being, especially when they've been dead for sixty years

Marilyn Monroe had the best death - Nembutal and Chloral Hydrate injection and/or enema. In 1950 and 1960 doctors prescribed barbiturates for insomnia, but now we live in a time when it is difficult to obtain good sleeping pills and lethal drugs. People deserve a peaceful death no matter what time we live in - why should we suffer until we are 100 years old?

The death of Marilyn Monroe - any story about her death, regardless if the story is true or not, will sell, and everything about Marilyn Monroe will sell, almost 60 years after her death. I believe her death was a medical mistake; Eunice Murray can have helped her with enema or injection and accidentally overdosed. The people who were present at 12305 5th Helena Drive when the police came to the house on August 5, 1962, were Eunice Murray, Ralph Greenson and Hyman Engelberg, who changed their stories about what happened that night several times so the most likely is that these people were involved with her death.

I want to dedicate this thread to the memory of Marilyn Monroe. On May 19, 1962, Marilyn Monroe sang "Happy Birthday" to President John F Kennedy for his 45th birthday at Madison Square Garden in a stunning, provocative flesh-colored gown. On November 17, 2016, this Marilyn Monroe-dress was sold at auction for 4.8 million dollars - the world´s most expensive dress!

no need to gatekeep, people with all kinds of backgrounds struggle with suicidal ideation. money can't buy everything and fame can actually be really distressing for some, I think she had some mental disorders or something which no sort of life could fix.

norma jeane. thanks for posting. i never knew about the medical mistake version. also at the time there was a crack shot journalist, reporter, author named Dorothy Kilgalen who was a panelist on a popular tv show called What’s My Line. Dorothy broke glass ceilings before there were glass ceilings. Dorothy did lots investigating and private interviews with many people about the assasination of JFK. she had a national newspaper column and the day before Marilyn died she mentioned in her column that Marilyn was having an affair with JFK. the next day Marilyn passed away.
a couple of years later Dorothy was going to write a tell all book about what she found out about the JFK killing. later on Dorothy was found dead in her own NYC townhouse by her hairdresser. Dorothy took N on a regular basis and they said it was CTB, but was found in bed with full makeup, in a bed/bedroom that she never used. her hairdresser and many others at the time thought it looked “set up” & think she was killed. there’s a poorly written book about it on the rainforest site that i read.

Marilyn Monroe has been my idol throughout my adult life. I have books and paintings of Marilyn Monroe. Writing about Marilyn Monroe was the most interesting story I have written here. I have read many books about Marilyn Monroe, but not the book Collateral Damage: The Mysterious Deaths Of Marilyn Monroe And Dorothy Kilgallen And The Ties That Bind Them To Robert Kennedy And The JFK Assassionation. The deaths of Marilyn Monroe, Dorothy Kilgallen, John F Kennedy and Robert Kennedy - it is possible that these events were just coincidences and had nothing to do with each other. People write anything about Marilyn Monroe just to make money. I believe what Donald Spoto wrote in his biography of Marilyn Monroe - that there were no passionate love affairs between Marilyn Monroe and the Kennedy-brothers. However, there are only evidence that Marilyn Monroe met Robert Kennedy and John F Kennedy four times. I will always believe that her death was a medical mistake.

The "Collateral Damage" book sounds interesting. I always thought there was some kind of "link" between Marilyns death, JFKs assassination, and Dorothys death. I'm looking for a good book to read, and think I'll read it...

She was very beautiful and charismatic. The audience in those days loved her. She was before my time,as I was 7 when she died. I recall the news story,I had no idea who she was. She was as good as any Hwood star.
But...a lot of Nembutal floating around!

Suicide with barbiturates. It was the time you could almost get it OTC, and it was only 70 years ago.
