  • Hey Visitor,

In light of recent events, all community members in the US should reach out to their representative in regards to the Stop Online Suicide Assistance Forums Act that has been introduced in congress. This bill, if passed, could criminalize this community and hold it liable for simply hosting information.

You should be able to locate and contact your represenative by going to this website. You can also contact Lori Trahan, the one spearheading this bill by calling her office at (202) 225-3411 or by leaving a message on the contact form on her site.

One of the best ways to combat this is to make your voice heard. We're not political activists, but we made this notice to let you know that you do have a voice and that you do have representives that represent you in congress.

What dreams did you have as a child?

I had boring wishes, marriage, children, house, dog. When I was younger a horse and a big adventure run for guinea pigs. A house with a tree growing through the roof. To make and exhibit art. Writing a book. Being happy.

What were your dreams or wishes?

I don't think I really had any dreams as a child. I immersed myself in books and creative stuff as an escape from my life. The only thing I remember thinking was that if I one day had a child, I would be a very different mother to mine. My boy is now 18 and is my greatest achievement.

For the longest time, I wanted to be a veterinarian to help the local animals and family. I grew out of it and I've been lost ever since

I wanted to be in law enforcement (like a police officer) but thanks to a stay in loony bin on the part of a serious POS, that'll never be a reality.
My dad isn't put out about that though because when i told him that, he shit all over it and said "that's too dangerous for you."

A minor heart attack and stroke later... I've pretty much given up on any other childhood dreams I may have ever had, like just being happy.

Or never having to interact with my parents ever again, because they're manipulative, conniving pieces of shit who fuck everything up and really don't have a clue.
(Keep in mind, I'm an adult. I shouldn't have to interact with them regardless, but my health issues have forced me into interactions with them.)

I can relate to the escapism of n such a level it’s also I do these days unfortunately with the addition of porn.
Only reason I can remember my dreams is I have a really good memory which feels like a curse

I wanted to study martial arts so, I would not have to fear people anymore. I wanted to devote myself to religious studies so that I might do good in my life and be well after it. My life has always been more about avoiding pain because I find no pleasure in anything. At the best of times, I feel nothing. I guess I was not made for this world.

I wonder about the deleterious effects of achieving dreams.

The timeline is nebulous, but as far back as I can recall I'd had a fascination with Japan. Not just in the typical weeby anime way, but in the holier-than-thou, let me tell you about the history of the shogunate and this weird-ass instrument, everything to do with the place kind of way. I developed a single-minded determination to somehow get there and stay as long as possible, which culminated in picking up a bachelor's degree (and the associated debt) to get a teacher's visa and living/working there for three years. No guidance from anyone in life on whether this was a good idea, or what to do if I changed my mind. Which I did, after less than two years, realising it was horrifically isolating and ostracizing and that I had to gtfo.

One other "dream" I remember having around age 11 was to be an explorer. Whatever that means. I'd been playing a video game that had me going to far-flung locales all modeled on distinct regions of the natural world - deserts, jungles, tundras - and the idea of really going to such a variety of places tantalized me. To a scaled-back extend I did this after leaving Japan, traveling to a few places in SE Asia, Western Europe, and Central America. Never made it to a desert (sadly) or tundra (changed my mind, cold is shit); there are still some general/specific places it'd be nice to see.

But after having lived the life I have, I know it's all just chasing dragons. It'd be nice then just be a checked-off item on a list. We move from one thing to the next; satisfy one dopamine hit and need to seek out another.

To be a cat and to find people's stolen cars (as a cat!) (we had lots of carjackings in our town all the time) and to build a labyrinth through a reed-field and build a secret house in the middle that no one would ever find and to learn to communicate with lizards.

As it turns out, that last part is mainly just about learning to understand their body language, there's no way to have a human-like conversation with them about past or future events or philosophical ideals.

I used to have such big dreams as a child. I wanted to be an olympic swimmer but an injury ruined that. The worst part is that the injury still haunts me and I never really recovered from it.

That´s why my dream now is just to be able to swim like back than again.

When I was a child I couldn't really imagine how it would feel to be an adult, so I didn't really think or dream much about what I would do. The only thing I knew very early was that I wanted to travel the world, live abroad and learn to speak several languages. In my early teenage years I also dreamt about going to college and studying something I'm interested in, having an interesting job afterwards, having lots of friends and enjoying lots of parties with them and having a good relationship with a guy I love. Actually I managed to achieve almost all of these things, which on the one hand really makes me happy, but on the other hand it has the disadvantage that nowadays it sometimes seems pointless to continue living, because I've already done most of the things I wanted to do when I was very young.

Being happy earning my life thanks to my passion (still to be discovered or lost from sight a long time ago), being autarcique and taking care of my loved ones.

I don´t remember what dreams I had as a child because that was such a long time ago, but I am sure that I didn´t dream of ending up here.
