I need to scream. I have years worth of suppressed screams to let out but I don't know where. I live with my grandmother & a sensitive bunny, screaming inside the house is not an option. Neither is near outside my house because there's neighbours. I tried destroying things with an axe but it wasn't enough. I need to scream. Where do you guys go to scream? Need some ideas 💜

Not much of a screamer, me. Maybe a yeller or a shouter, more. But when I have to, its a pillow.
I get privacy at be a problem, and freaking gran out something chronic, not clever...

So loud music (lately placebo / nick cave / manson) on the hiway...
If u can't get the car thing, do it underwater. I train in a local lake... im sure I've terrified all the fish with my underwater yelling!!

I imagine screaming in a deep forest.
Or at the beach on winter days when no one goes there.
Maybe at the top of some mount.

But the most exciting one must be to scream in a public place and face all the stares and comments that come after. And still dont give a f**k.

I’d try a park if possible, but go off trail to less populated areas. Rule of thumb is if the trail looks overgrown or shabby less people will use it because they don’t like dirtying their shoes and clothes. I’d try the evening as well, since it further reduces people walking through the park and possibly hearing you. Evenings great as well since the fishermen or nature enthusiasts who do like these spots tend to be gone by then.

At work. No, seriously. Between the shit in my head, the things in my personal life and my sucky job, sometimes I just shout loudly. Really loudly.

Its fucking LIBERATING!

When I'm desperate, in the apartment. It's like a quick, frenzied shriek.

The neighbors think I'm batshit. They haven't called the cops yet, so that's something. 😐

In my car, usually. Going really fast down the highway with good music helps. When I lived alone/ in the days when people actually left the house and I could be alone, in my house/ apartment. I liked to think even if I bothered someone enough for there to be repercussions, that at least meant I was real and deserved help, but no one ever really seemed to mind. : )

For the people who said into pillows, how much do pillows muffle screams? Want to know before I try.

I think I know a place that might be good, it's a place near an abandoned mine. The problem is getting there on my own. I don't think muffling will work as good for venting, I want to hear it (idk if that's weird). Until I can find a place to do that screaming into a pillow might help a lot. 💜

I don't scream anymore, but I used to. Went to a waterfall nearby. A pillow works too, and in a car with loud music.

I often listen to Kelis' "Caught Out There" (I hate you so much right now) when I'm frustrated. Her screaming in this song is just wonderful.

Lots of loveS

Somewhere out in the open where, if there's anybody about, you can see them and wait till they're gone. Perhaps a local park or an empty field somewhere.

♤ WHERE DO I SCREAM?

INTO THEIR FUCKING FACES,
BUT THEY JUST CAN'T HEAR ME....

Arno Carstens :: Another Universe

Let's take the final bow

Let's make the silent sign
Nobody needs to know where we're off to
We're invisible alive
We're the whispers in the scream
We're not living in the west
And we're not coming from the east
Sharp is the knife
Alive is the night
I'm gonna slit the throat of the holy goat
Ceremony to the UFO
SMS them where we wanna go
From the galaxy of blues to a universe we choose
No more crying and just maybe somebody to hold...
Let's play the metal music slow
Leave the car on the highway and go
Nobody needs to know another universe
Make a distance between us and them
Lonely, lonely never us again
A galaxy to explore
Don't wanna return to a world at war
From the galaxy of blues to a universe we choose

No more crying and just maybe somebody to hold...

I don't really know how many pillows it would take to muffle the sound because it depends on the type of pillow, but the way I've always done it is to bury my face into the top pillow (with another one underneath it, just because I've always slept with two fluffy pillows under my head) and then sort of wrap/press the edges of the pillow around my face and then let it out. I haven't done it in a couple of years now, mostly due to my physical condition and the fact that I don't even have the energy to speak let alone scream, but I've done a lot of pillow-screaming over the years and I've never gotten any comments about it, so I can only assume that it worked well enough. :ahhha:I've also screamed into the palm of my hand a few times when I really couldn't wait to get to a pillow, and while I wouldn't exactly recommend it, it was better than nothing.

My only concern with screaming without any muffling going on is the possibility that others might be around (even if it's a remote location) and will call the cops because they think someone's in danger. So, I guess what I mean to say is, if you're going to scream without muffling the sound, I'd *personally* recommend letting it out and then promptly leaving the area just in case someone hears you and you don't want to potentially deal with anyone asking you about the noise or becoming suspicious of god knows what, ha.
I can see why you would want to be able to hear it, though... might feel a little more satisfying or more like a "release", I suppose, but I'd still say that screaming into pillows can be a pretty decent outlet nonetheless.

I'm sorry you feel the need to scream at all, but I definitely understand. Many hugs to you.

Wish I had an opportunity to scream at times. The thing is, I get the urge in the most inappropriate places. 😭

My work involves a lot of talking while my home life has almost none, and I'm a generally quiet person, so I'm often worried that the full on screaming that I feel I need will risk me needing to take leave from work due to voice injury. At the same time, I'm in a place where it's hard for me to go anywhere where nobody would hear if I screamed proper unless I travel a longer while, even if I wanted to

Over the pandemic I found a middle ground, where every now and then (and tbh, often several times a day) I let out a one second-ish yell (duration being like when people scream out a solitary "fuck" or yelling boo). If anyone hears, I can pass it off as a bad sneeze or a stubbed toe or the audio kept playing for a moment when I unplugged my headphones or that it wasn't even me... Etc.

It's not perfect, but when the pressure builds up a lot, it's nice to have a small release rather than nothing. And just one second is less likely to alarm anyone more than startle them.

Won't work for everyone, but it helps me when other options like people suggest above aren't available

I rarely feel the need to scream, but this worked for me:

Step 1) Breathe out
Step 2) Bury face in pillow
Step 3) Attempt scream

Because I don't inhale initially, what I get is something like a silent scream. This works for me because I still get the dizzying out-of-breathe feeling you usually get from screaming your lungs out (which is what relieves the pent up emotions for me). Idk if this will even help lmao. Good luck.

Side note: I usually cough when I overdo the screaming part, so careful with that.

Same. I've tried pillows but screaming whie driving with music is the best option I've found so far. Gotta be careful to still pay attention to the road, but it always worked well for me.

In my bedroom closet at home mostly. The place that I feel the need to scream the most is at work but there isn't anywhere you can scream there without causing a scene, even the bathrooms are full of people most of the time

I don't. I keep everything bottled up inside, explode randomly at innocent bystanders/undeserving individuals, then feel guilty and ashamed afterwards.
